Using after effects - Lauren

To help with using after effects I watched clips on youtube , to help learn how to use the programme.

This helped me to use understand how to use key framing and how to zoom into different pictures to add effects . The zoom was important because the aim was to zoom in on the logo to make it stand out.  I did this so that I could use after effects to my full potential and make sure that what we were presenting was to a high standard and looked professional.

How to find out about web traffic and Why unique visitors are more important than hits.

When looking at our Niche News competition we also needed to work out how many users visited the competitor sites.

The first site we looked at was http://www.trafficestimate.com/

You can input any site into the search bar and get the number of visits the site has had over the past 30 days. However, they do not tell you the number of unique users.

This site shows you different ways of calculating the number yourself, depending on the site. It is slightly more reliable as the first site does not recognise some of the less popular websites.

Why are Unique Visitors More Important than Hits?

Hits are pieces of data that includes not only the web page but also every other file that makes it possible. So, a single web page can easily translate into multiple hits so that if a website has received over 1,000 hits, that could mean that the site received only 100 actual visitors in some cases.

Unique visitors are tracked by their unique IP addresses. So, it reflects a single and truly "unique" visitor therefore, you can see how popular your website actually is.

Our Final Logo

Here is our final logo:

Here is a copy of our final logo. I used a previously found image and edited its' features on photoshop. I changed the logo, the colours and inputed our own CLSR News. We are also trying to change the C in CLSR and make it turn to represent it being a wheel of the car.

Editing - CLSR

In today's lesson we started editing the footage that we filmed yesterday , we had a couple of minutes of footage and we had to cut it down into 10 seconds for our opening sequence. Whilst editing we had to add in transitions to make the footage flow smoothly and also to make it look like a news opening sequence.

Sound

After trying to create our own sound for our opening sequence, this involved choosing different instruments until we found one that we liked. Then we started playing notes until we found a jingle that we liked and thought it fit out topic. We didn't use this for our final draft as I couldn't find a beat that would fit with it.
As a result of this we decided to use a variety of pre-made sounds to create the music for our opening sequence.

Filming - Sophia

Today we did some filming for the opening sequence , I had to act out how I passed my driving test. During filming we had trouble finding the perfect location because the sun was facing the camera so you couldn't see us in the shot , we also had to be careful whilst filming in the car park so that we didn't get anyone's number plate in the footage. To over come this e move to another location where the lighting was better and to a place where we were able to not film cars number plate yet still having the camera angle / camera shot that we needed.

bubble.us - Sophia

This is bubble.us it's is am example of how bubble.us would be used,I think this was very useful to use when we were trying to decide on what our opening scene was going to have in it and also to decide on what our news package was going to be based on . I like it because it was easy to use and very clear to see our ideas on.

Swot analysis - Sophia

Last year we used programmes such as YouTube , adobe premiere elements and Photoshop , haveing used these programmes I have learnt a lot about they way in which they work and it has also taught be different ways to film angles so that when we come to edit it , it will be a lot easier to add transitions in without having to loose part of the footage or without having to re shoot anything .

This year we will still be using premier element but we will be using the updated version(12), this means that we can incorporate our skills from last year to this year , we will also be using photoshop so that we use certain photos in our opening sequence .

Logo Ideas Lesson

Here is our mood board exploring different logo ideas:

Plan - CLSR

In today's lesson we started to make our plan for our opening sequence for our news channel.

Niche News Ideas Mood Board

This was the mood board we made showing our thought process in finding our main idea.

We first were very keen to carry forward the idea of advice for 'being 18'. However, when expanding on this idea we realised that we had a very select audience and we would lose our audience each year.

We realised that one aspect of being 18 was being a young driver. This led to our idea of advice for new drivers being our niche news topic.

09/10/14 Logo Lesson

Today we explored different ways of creating a logo. Photoshop was proving quite difficult when attempting to customise our logo.

So, we looked into another site that gave a range of options and allowance to customise. Freelogoservices.com

Here is the customisation page of the site. We are able to change the colours, fonts and positioning allowing it to be exactly what we want.

Here are some of our options from the site. There is a vast variety and we will be exploring further into this.

Sound - Caryss & Sophia

In today's lesson we started making sound in garage band and we look at all the different noises we wanted and we decided that we wanted a montage of all the different car sounds in the background of our opening theme tune.

We want to have this as it highlights what our news package will be about and will create a sense of originality and uniqueness.  What will be hard about doing this is that it will be hard to try and fit all the noises together to make a catchy new sounding tune.

Logo ideas -Sophia

Today we looked at the perfect logo video , and it showed us how a simple logo can become so simbolic for example the apple logo , also it was showing how the logo has to be eye catching to attracted the viewers attention and how colour has a huge impact on capturing customers some of the ideas I came up with from the video were ;

Development of BBC News Timeline

http://prezi.com/fgjnlbjba4pk/bbc-news-timeline/

This Prezi shows the change in BBC News' opening sequences over the past 25 years. Making this Prezi allowed me to see the changes that can be made and the improvements that can be made when looking at the audience watching.

It also gave me a few ideas for making our sequence more meaningful when we enter this stage of our work.
